Grace and Gifts

I made a decision to move to a one bedroom apartment instead of of an independent group home. I’m not ready for a group home. I’ve lived alone before when I lived in Florida. It’s not my preference, but I’ll push myself to get involved with church and groups that share interests of mine. My introvert side needs a push.

I made another decision to delete my Facebook app. The page offers so little title of what I was looking for, and is a deterrent to my commitment to get active with folks, face to face. My son, Michael, told me it’s not the best way to send messages to my loved ones. I’ll have a better use of my time by working on my writing.

I’m looking for gently used furniture. Martha, my sister, friend and host to me for three years, found a lovely bedroom suite that he’s giving to me! Some would say luck, but she and l think that God provided a lovely gift when my need is apparent and my funds are tight. Another grace gift, the complex where I’m moving is gated, beautiful and offered a lovely move in special for Nick and me. Cumberland Ridge provide security for each apartment. I feel safe and snug in my small space.

Stop by and see me!

Searching

looking for a sign.

I’m so focused on searching

I missed the life before me

new day

Now I’m learning to embrace each day

Let tomorrow bring what it will

I won’t miss a moment of today

My feet are firmly planted

firmTo withstand any storm

My head is focused on Jehovah

I’m soaking up my blessings

Enjoying them, large or small

DNA

Generally, chromosomes main function is to control the activities of a living cell. They are vital for the cell division process and are responsible for the division, replication as well as creation of daughter cells, which contain accurate sequences of DNA and proteins.

God created us in such a complex way, I’ve never understood how anyone could doubt that he’s the creator. I look at the string of beautiful chromosomes and know divine design is truly a miracle.

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them male and female he created them.
Genesis :27 NLT

If he can fling the stars, hang the sun and moon, populate the earth with living plants and animals, create man, he can do anything.20131207-120622.jpg

Tradition

I wrote this a year ago when I was living with my son. This year everyone close will gather at Martha’s home. Family and friends near and far, we wish you an attitude of thanksgiving, a full tummy and lots of football.

For a long time I’ve struggled to keep up the Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions created by my mother. The ideal for me is the family gathered under one roof. It isn’t to be. We are scattered across the states. Over time relationships have disintegrated. Family dynamics are difficult. And, essentially I’ve divested myself of my worldly goods necessary for entertaining.

I’m finished my prayer assaults for my ideal holidays. I’ve listened to his admonishment to give thanks in all things. There is no perfection in this realm. There is progress and acceptance.

I’m thankful for a life in California, friends far and near, and for an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner. For the first time in a longtime I don’t have to cook. Smiling!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Motives

“Never attribute to others motives less noble than thine.” I did a search but didn’t find who said this. It was one of David Haynes’ favorite sayings. It packs a powerful punch for one line, 9 words. In other words mind my business!

Proverbs. 21:1-2 The Message,  Good leadership is a channel of water controlled by God; he directs it to whatever he chooses. We justify our actions by appearances; God examines our motives.

This leads me to realize I need to think before I speak. This reminds me to keep my words sweet, I might have to eat them. I think sometime it’s best to not say anything until I’m in a place to think about what I should say and how to say it. Words spoken in haste or anger can be forgiven, but never erased.

Isolation

isolation

Isolation can be a defense mechanism, an escape from embarrassment, or just a need for solitude. “Solitude is a chosen separation for refining your soul. Isolation is what you crave when you neglect the first.” ― Wayne Cordeiro, Leading on Empty: Refilling Your Tank and Renewing Your Passion

As in many choices in life, balance is the key. Having a social life is an excellent stimulant, but sometimes I must retire to my rooms to study, read, write and rest. Isolation can be used as a defense against confronting some difficulty in my life. If I forsake the company of others and lose all interest in my usual activities for an extended time, it’s a warning sign that I’m out of balance. I feel fortunate that when this happened not so long ago someone intervened and challenged me to live more fully. Some folks call this a God shot, and I don’t mean espresso. I’ve never asked what they mean. My own interpretation is an intervention at the right time, a rescue from circumstances, or a happy meeting with someone or something that lifts me up and gives me a good shake to bring me to my senses.

So today I wish for you balance in your life. There is a season for all things.

The Family Altar

When I was growing up, my dad called the family together every evening. My dad read the Bible and we prayed. My mother knew the Scriptures and used them to teach me. My spiritual training began very early and is ingrained in me. I’m deeply grateful to them.

I’ve studied and examined other religions through the years. I come away feeling satisfied and secure in my belief system taught in my family home. What my parents taught me, I passed on to my children with confidence.  George’s and Gladys’ legacy lives on. Everything I need to know is in the Bible.

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. Proverbs 22:6
