Colleen and Ronovan Wednesdayquote

invite us to write about quotes that influence us.

Whoever wrote this thought had a clear idea of what someone with a burning desire to tell a story will want in his tool kit. The ability to let your imagination fly free, and roots that keep you humble and stable, is a perfect combination.

I have my coffee at my desk and I’ve had time to let my muse to register a subject for my first haiku.

Journey to Mexico's butterfly sanctuaries and stand among hundreds of millions of monarchs as they complete their remarkable migration.

How I Adjust My Attitude.

I’m writing today for Rononvan’s BeWoW, be wonderful on Wednesday. I’m looking for something to help me overcome the blue funk that is trying her  best to infringe on my joy.

Colleen is working on her novel until the end of the month. GO! Colleen, get it done!

Many people are conflicted with this time of the year because of the gross amount of commercialism that invades and causes everyone to crowd the parking lots of stores, and don’t forget the grocery stores, in an effort to bring happiness. The struggle is to keep it simple and my  mind on what I celebrate. Oh yes, not you, right?

Whatever it is,  I’m singing:

I knew intellectually and by the Spirit’s nudging that I needed to change my attitude. I head for the scriptures.

Jonah 2:5-7New Life Version (NLV)

Waters closed in over me. The sea was all around me. Weeds were around my head. I went down to the roots of the mountains. The walls of the earth were around me forever. But You have brought me up from the grave, O Lord my God. While I was losing all my strength, I remembered the Lord. And my prayer came to You, into Your holy house.

and:

2 Timothy 1:7New Life Version (NLV)

For God did not give us a spirit of fear. He gave us a spirit of power and of love and of a good mind.

The scriptures are my lifeline. sinking

Now I’m singing:

My World

In your native language which letter or character describes you best?  Why?

I speak only one language, English. I know a smattering of French and Spanish, not enough to get by on vacation. and at this stage of the game, 3/4 of a century, no Rosetta Stone for me.

I embrace the letter MIt’s for Meredith, momma, Memere, memories, my musings, memoirs, music.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Presently my greatest extravagance is time. It is for me to study spiritual matters and music. It is to learn new technology. Time is useful for exercising and resting. I mustn’t forget time to enjoy my family. Oh yes, writing.

Do you prefer exercising your mind or your body? How frequently do you do either?

The two are closely tied. I must exercise both. Haven’t you heard, both are necessary for vibrant health. When I neglect one both suffer.

List at least 5 things that makes you laugh.

I love to laugh, medicine for the mind, and exercise for the body. Here are some of my favorite frivolities. Comedies, animals, Face Book memes, Martha and me.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Mike and Jodee at a middle wrap party 2015

The last month has been looking forward to, planning for and anticipation of seeing most of my family at our Thanksgiving feast. There are six huge holes that leaves me so sad… Wesley Markham Haynes, Taylor Rae Haynes, Samantha Mae Haynes,  John Michael Haynes, Jodee Haynes and Ashley her daughter are in California. If only they could be here, it would be my whole living family!

Images of November : in southwest France

The pictures, the prose and the poem captures all that preparing for winter means. Thanks, Vron for a visit to L’ Entre Deux Mers, France.

Between Two Tides.

November is as beautiful as always. Treeleaf has turned, now falling rapidly, but temperate weather encourages flowers to bloom. We have collected a few apples, almonds, and cobnuts. Squash ripens in le jardin ‘potager’, waiting to be, ‘put in the pot’. The stove is lit, and warms the thick stone walls. This is how we prepare for winter.

Once farmers used every piece of land productively. They grew apple trees along vineyard verges. But no one collects the apples now. They ripen and fall, food for the insects, anyhow.

The sky falls in,
acorns,
from the big oak tree,
thud,
there nestling
in a bed of leaves.

Marigold,
she warms my heart,
still beacon bright,
midst autumn light.

Maya Angelou

r & CRonovan and Colleen invite us write to inspire ourselves and others on BeWoW Wednesday and Writer’s Quote Wednesday. It fits right in with my Wednesday Write-up.

I scroll through the quotes on the page looking for just the right one for me. Maya Angelou is credited with this quote.

maya angelou

I’ve always been a writer of letters, notes, list. Teaching is my career since 1960 through 2006. I’ve been a teacher for children, college classes and Sunday school classes. Now I write my blog with the mind-set that I’ll pass something on worthwhile; still teaching after all these years. May my last breath contain some bright gem passed from the angel come to escort me home to listening ears.

Maya Angelou was an author. I know she was intent on teaching other to learn from her painful experiences, enrichment of the human spirit. Just listen… Now from her legacy captured in print and video, she still is teaching.
