Meredith Dixon Haynes was one of the winners of the personalised short story based on The Tales from the Garden. Meredith asked that her mother be included in the story and having read the lovely tribute to Gladys on Meredith’s Musings, I decided to make the story very much about this lovely lady.

The magic garden is not only for the pleasure of those humans and creatures that live within its boundaries. It is also a place that others may visit to walk its paths and smell the fragrances that drift like smoke through the air.

Not everyone is allowed to wander across the lawns to discover hidden treasures behind  evergreen bushes and ancient trees. This privilege is only for those who in their lives have touched plants with love and respect. No ripping of the roots from the soil or unworthy cuts…
