Martha and I have had a lot of fun showing off our family for two days. The national holiday tomorrow lends itself to quote one of Martha’s and my heroes, Thomas Jefferson.
We celebrate American Independence Day on the Fourth of July every year. It matters not that the date the draft was completed was the 2nd of July. The handwritten copy was signed and dated the 4th of July. That was the day the nation celebrated our independence. Thomas Jefferson’s and John Adams’ deaths on July 4, 1826 may have made the 4th more important. In 1870 Congress declared July 4th to be a national holiday. In 1939 and 1941 further legislation about national holiday was passed.
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. – John Adams – See more at: US History Quotes About God and the Bible
[The Fourth of July] ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. – John Adams – See more at: http://www.usachristianministries.com/us-history-quotes-about-god-and-the-bible/#sthash.S27HLPxX.dpuf
Dwight D. Eisenhower – President of the United States of America “Without God there could be no American form of government, nor an American way of life. Recognition of the Supreme Being is the first, the most basic, expression of Americanism. Thus, the founding fathers of America saw it, and thus with God’s help, it will continue to be.” – Dwight D. Of the many influences that have shaped the United States into a distinctive nation and people, none may be said to be more fundamental and enduring than the Bible. – Ronald Reagan – See more at: http://www.usachristianministries.com/us-history-quotes-about-god-and-the-bible/#sthash.S27HLPxX.dpuf
