Today I’m writing about another musical that I love, Oklahoma. I’ve seen both movies of the original play, one in 1955 and the other in 1999.
Oklahoma opened on Broadway on March 31, 1943. The show was the longest running show until My Fair Lady. Richard Rodgers, composer, and Oscar Hammerstein II, librettist, wrote the play. They won a special Pulitzer Prize for the play. The 1955 film adaptation won an Academy Award.
This video is from that movie featuring Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones.
Hugh Jackman reprised the role of Curly in 1998 in the Royal National Theatre in London’s West End. He also starred in the 1999 film version of Oklahoma.
I’ve included a You Tube video from this movie featuring the entire cast.
