I dedicated my time yesterday to finishing Dying to Read by Lorena McCourtney, and I’m happy I did. If you recall from my post yesterday, my impression of the first 19% wasn’t good. The book started a bit slow for my tastes, and I thought McCourtney’s style might be predictable.
I’m delighted to report I was wrong. What started out with barely a sizzle ended with a couple of bangs. McCouttney delivered suspense with humor. Her protagonist bumbles her way through a murder investigation as a novice PI. Along the way she picks up a friend who is a suspect, not to mention her “twin,” and a man who acts as her “superman” and sends out romantic vibes. The author stirs the mix with the ex fiancé trying to shoe-horn his way back into the picture. The cherries on top are two desperate murderers out to cover their crimes.
I recommend the book and rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
