Turn of a Phrase

Shoot a monkey is an exclamation my mother used. I use it when something doesn’t happen as I expected it, i. e. “Shoot a monkey, the biscuits didn’t rise.” When I did a web search, what I found almost caused me to not pursue this compilation of phrases and words that I use as exclamations of delight or dismay. However, I know my mom, and her meaning had nothing to do with what some sources claim this to mean.

I’ll continue from time to time to write about other exclamations we all use with the meaning and the origins, if I can find them . If you have a favorite, please leave it the comment section, and I’ll include it. As they say in New York, “bada-bing, bada-boom,” meaning I’m finished with this post!

  1. After I initially commented I appear to have clicked on the -Notify me when
new comments are added- checkbox and from now on every time a comment is
added I receive four emails with the same comment.

Is there a way you are able to remove me from that service?

    Cheers!
